CLASSICAL MUSIC

It makes me very sad to read of youth's lack of interest in classical music because I have always believed that classical music is for everyone. It has the power to transform lives: it can provide stimulation, motivation and consolation. It also supplies historical links that are often undervalued and which could even influence political decision-making. Sometimes it seems as if the classical music world has given up - resigned to its fate as some eccentric middle-class irrelevance. When Howard Goodall wrote in The Times that "many young people find classical music un-cool and archaic", there wasn't a murmur in response. But the truth is that "many young people" haven't even had a chance to discover whether classical music is "un-cool and archaic" because they have never been exposed to it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2005/06/23/bmjw23.xml&sSheet=/arts/2005/06/23/ixartleft.html
