Those of us of a certain age (and we know who we are) remember when the peridiocal section of any decent library was largely devoted to journals specializing in literature, poetry, essays and other items of interest mainly to academics. These journals often had links to Universities. Here is a discussion from the New York Sun of the fate of many of those publications. (...and it is not just that they have been supplanted by People Magazine.) I fear that many have been usurped in a fashion by 'blogs. But blogs lack the discipline and focus of a strong editor.
