In Forbes' who's who of billionaires, it's who's missing that's remarkable
"There are now more billionaires in Turkey than there are in Japan.
The finding from the annual Forbes Billionaires List - on which Bill Gates takes his habitual place at the top with $56bn (£29bn) - highlights the increasing interdependence of the global economy and the strength of emerging markets.
And despite fears for world economy's health over the past 12 months, there are now more rich people worth more than ever. Some 946 billionaires with an average age of 62 are now worth a collective $3,500bn, compared with 793 worth $2,600bn this time last year.
According to Forbes, a great many of the new wealthy class hail from emerging markets.
There are 14 new billionaires from India and 13 from China, while the wealth of the Russian oligarchs means the country, with 53, has more billionaires than any nation other than the US (415) and Germany (55).
The United Kingdom, with 29 billionaires, ranks fifth, behind India, fourth with 36, and ahead of Turkey, sixth with 25. Japan, despite being the world's second largest economy, can boast just 24 billionaires"
