And it was pretty luxurious. In 1903, when The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel opened, it was the first building in the city to have electricity, American fans, German lifts and English butlers. Jamsetji made his money from cotton mills. But his biggest dream was to build a steel plant. He died before he could realise this goal so his son did. And that was how Tata - one of the world's biggest companies - was born.
