One has to feel a bit sorry for Tony Blair. He rolled his dice with George Bush on Iraq. Voters punished him because it has now become clear that the 'intelligence' that drove Bush/Blair to war, was simply not there. Liars both? Quite probably. It is hard to believe that Blair did not subject Bush to strict proof on the question of weapons of mass destructions or the question of the 'post-liberaration reception' given by the Iraquis to the 'liberators'. If they were both hoodwinked, then shame on us all. Surely it takes no one of much brilliance to conclude that the world is better off without Saddam Hussein than with him, but to reach that conclusion by lying to one's own constituents --- that's a grievous error. So it appears that Blair will be handing the PM's position to Gordon Brown soon. My view on Brown is that any friend of Irwin Steltzer has to be good. Blair's major accomplishments in bringing change to "New Labour" should not be forgotten in the effort to tag him with error over Iraq.
